Sevr broadheads are unique because their blades nest into the ferrule. If ever there was a broadhead designed to fly like a target point, the Sevr is it. The silhouette is so sleek that there is little to divert it from its point of aim. I have used this head in Africa and on hog hunts in Florida with excellent results. When Sevr introduced a new 4-blade model, I wondered if adding two more cutting surfaces would affect arrow flight.

What the Manufacturer Says:

SEVR Broadheads announced today the ALL-NEW Titanium 1.5” Hybrid four-blade broadhead. By combining a 1.5” locking-pivoting main blade with a durable .7” wide fixed bleeder blade, SEVR’s NEW premium rear-deploy hybrid broadhead offers 2.2” total blade cut—a remarkable 46% increase over the standard 1.5 head. The new hybrid promises improved blood trails and the world-renowned 1.5 penetration and accuracy. Assembled with a machined one-piece Titanium ferrule and precision-ground tip, the SEVR Titanium 1.5 Hybrid four-blade is an ideal choice for any serious big game bow hunter.

To the Test Track

The above arrows were launched from a TenPoint Viper 430 using TenPoint Premium arrows from a bench rest. This is the set-up I’ve used dozens of times, and I have absolute confidence in the results. The target on the left (top) was a 100-grain target point, while the one on the right (bottom} was tipped with the new Sevr Hybrid 4-blade. The new 4-blade head is not specified for crossbows, yet it performed just as the two-blade models have done from speeds up to 505 fps. Adding the two “bleeder blades” adds significantly to the wound channel on an animal, which is exactly what bowhunters want.

One-of-a-Kind-Practice

Sevr braodheads are the only heads I know that can be used for practice and hunting. This took unique engineering, especially for an expandable broadhead, yet it is designed with a small screw that can be added to lock the blades closed. Since the head has the same silhouette locked closed as unlocked and in flight, you can be 100% guaranteed that the head will fly where you aim. The cutting blades are locked in the closed position so the blades are not dulled. Sevr heads are sold individually, so you can order as many or as few as you need. Additionally, they arrive in a compact box with each broadhead in the individual package shown above. An Allen wrench is provided to remove add or remove the locking screw.

Cutting Profile

The rotation of an expandable broadhead has always concerned me. If possible, I’d like it to strike an animal vertically so that the blades will intersect a host of blood vessels and cause massive hemorrhage. I worry that it may strike horizontally where the blades parallel blood vessels, and there is less damage. Adding the two extra blades should greatly increase the likelihood of voluminous blood trails. Sevr sells a variety of expandable braodheads for compounds and those designed specifically for high-speed crossbows. To visit their website, click HERE.
